In this article I like to share my views on how to apply for tatkal Indian passport online. If you are in need for passport urgently for any emergency international travel, you can apply for tatkal passport. As per Govt. of India( Ministry of External Affairs) , Tatkaal Service is a scheme available to passport applicants who need their passports urgently out-of-turn.
Applications accepted under this scheme will be processed outside the line of applications dictated by the “first in – first out” principle which is central to the working of all passport offices in the country. You can get passport in  tatkaal scheme in a margin of a minimum of 4-5 working days but again it depends and region you stay and number of tatkaal applications received.
How to apply for tatkal Indian passport online: 2012-2013 :  To obtain a passport under the Tatkaal Scheme, a Specimen Verification Certificate and standard affidavit should be submitted along with the Tatkaal fee. All applicants seeking a passport out of turn under the Tatkaal Scheme should submit their application, documentation, color photographs with white or light background with a specific fee.
No proof of urgency is required for Out-of-Turn issue of passport. Post Police Verification shall be done in respect of all passports issued under the Tatkaal Scheme.You  need to submit  the Verification  Certificate   ANNEXURE ‘F’  from any one of the designated officials such as Chief Secretary, Police Commissioner,DIG, District Magistrate & so on.Unless a verification certificate is obtained on their letter head from any one of these officials,you will not be considered for Tatkal issuance of pasport.

The following are the categories of applicants eligible to apply under the Tatkaal Scheme:
· Patients going abroad for medical treatment.
· Persons traveling abroad due to death of a close relative.
· Students appearing in examinations such as SAT, GRE.
· Students going abroad to join foreign universities.
· Businessmen going abroad urgently for trade, conference, trade fairs etc.
· Blood relative of a person residing abroad who is seriously ill.
· Close relatives of individuals working abroad.
· Winners of promotional awards and schemes foreign travel is a prize or incentive.
· Spouse of official passport holders going abroad and availing companion ticket.
· Individuals wishing to go abroad to attend marriage of close relatives.
· Pilgrimages and travels for religious purposes.
· For marriage or honeymoon after marriage.
If you have any emergency travel plan , you should have proper travel documents to show to the passport office to get passport in tatkal and need to pay extra fee/charges also, You should have valid reasons to satisfy passport officer for your urgency/need, then you can get your passport in tatkaal scheme.
You can also obtain a passport under Tatkaal Scheme on submission of three documents from the 14 documents mentioned below, provided one of the three documents is a photo identity document and at least one of the three is amongst the documents indicated at (a) to (i). Here in this article I am sharing my personal views about the Online Application Process. In the month of  June,2011 I have applied for Passport for my wife,mother,Kid from Bangalore, Karnataka  and I got passport with in 45 days after I applied. The whole process was very smooth. Only Thing you have to make sure that you have to be available in the Bangalore City or from where you have applied for passport for POLICE Verification ( Police verification for Tatkal and Fresh Indian Passport Online).
Generally if you are resident of Bangalore , you have to visit Police Station for verification completion. In other cities, police can come and visit your house address for verification. He will call you before visiting your home.
Submission of passport applications online : Passport Seva Kendra (PSK)/ Mini Passport Seva Kendra (Mini PSK)
1. Register online through passport seva website ( www.passportindia.gov.in) .
2. Fill online application form.
3. Upload Scanned copies of supporting documents , even you can submit these documents at passport seva Kendra.
4. Schedule an appointment with the Passport Seva Kendra (PSK)/ Mini Passport Seva Kendra (Mini PSK) that comes under the jurisdiction of applicant residence and take the printout of the receipts. (or)

2. Fill the eform offline
3. Register online through passport seva website ( www.passportindia.gov.in).
4. Upload eform and Scanned copies of supporting documents.
5. Schedule an appointment with the Passport Seva Kendra (PSK)/ Mini Passport Seva Kendra (Mini PSK) that comes under the jurisdiction of applicant residence and take the printout of the receipts.

Photograph of the applicants will be captured by a Citizen Service Executive (CSE) at Passport Seva Kendra (PSK)/Mini Passport Seva Kendra (Mini PSK) . Minor applicants below 4 years of age should carry a passport size photograph (on a white background) while visiting Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) .

If you are not aware of online process or not comfortable submitting online, in that case you can submit the passport application form in person in the below mentioned collection centers. In this case also you need to download the Fresh Application Form, Fill it and submit it with all required documents (self attested).

Supporting documents required
1. Proof of residence (Attested photo copy): Ration card, Voters’ identity card, Utility bills – water tax bill or telephone bill or electricity bill, Running bank account or income tax assessment order of last three years, Appointment letter of reputed companies on letterhead Certificate from Tehsildar or Gram Panchayat/ Sarpanch as proof of residence in a village.
2. Proof of date of birth and educational qualifications – any one of the following (Attested photo copy): Birth certificate,School certificate, In case of illiterate/ semi-literate persons a sworn affidavit is to be attested by a Magistrate, Tehsildar or Sarpanch as per specimen given in the form.
NOTE: It is obligatory to produce the original documents for verification in case so required by the Passport Office.

Change of address in Indian passport -Procedure and Documents required : If you have changed your address , and relocated to different state or city or region in India and looking for change of address ?  As per Indian Passports Act 1967,  if there any change in the address, Passport holder should immediately apply for endorsement of new address  in their passport. However there is no penalty if the address is not updated in the passport.

Deletion of spouse name in Indian passport after death or divorce :   Deletion of spouse name from passport  can be done by submitting the Divorce certificate in case of Divorce  .In the event of death of spouse , you can submit the death certificate and apply for Re-issue of Passport.

Passport Application Form Submission at District Passport Cell (DPC) in Person

Passport Application Form Submission at District Passport Cell (DPC) in Person : You can submit your passport application in person directly at District  Passport Cell in your Area.Application received at DPC are sent to Passport Seva Kendra (PSK)  in that region. However online Submission is always recommended.

  • Only FRESH/NEW passport Applications are collected at District Passport CELL
  • If you want to Apply for Tatkal Passport you have to Visit PSK
  • Tatkaal Applications are not collected at DPC
  • Note: Online Applications should be submitted to PSK and not to DPC.
Steps to Submit Passport Application Form at District Passport Cell (DPC)
  1. Download the Application Form and Fill the application from in Capital Letters : Download Application Form – This link will take you to Official Indian Passport Website: http://passportindia.gov.in/AppOnlineProject/online/printForm
  2. Take the Latest Photographs of applicant –  Passport Photographs Specifications
  3. Two Sets of Self Attested Copies of all the Documents. – Complete list of Documents for Applying Passport
  4. Carry the Documents in ORIGINAL along with Xerox Copies
  5. Make sure you fill the all required Affidavits /Annexures for your passport Application
  6. Make sure you have signed where ever its mentioned or necessary. If you are illiterate you can put your Thumb Impression.
  7. Demand Draft for Passport Application FEES : DD should be drawn in favor of “PAO-MEA” payable at the city where the Regional Passport Office (RPO) is located.
  8. Please mention your contact number Correctly in the Application form
 Once you have submitted  your application at DPC , your application will all required documents will be throughly verified by passport officer and once you are clear with the formalities , you will get an FILE number as an Acknowledgement .
After few weeks Police Verification will be done and your passport will reach in few weeks after Police Verification is Done.
